Can I rent a motorcycle in Japan with a Hong Kong licence?
Yes. If you hold a full Hong Kong or Macau motorcycle licence and bring your International Driving Permit (IDP) and passport, you can rent a RENTAL819 motorcycle in Japan. Probationary (P) licences cannot be accepted.
Three documents — all of them required
On pick-up day in Japan you must present all three of the following. If any one of them is missing, the branch cannot hand over the bike.
- Passport (presented at the time of rental)
- Your full Hong Kong or Macau driving licence (the national licence)
- International Driving Permit (IDP)
What about a probationary (P) licence?
No. We can only rent to holders of a full driving licence with a valid International Driving Permit, so a probationary (P) licence cannot be accepted.
Age limit
Rental819 serves only adults aged 18 or older; if you are under 18, we are unable to provide motorcycle rental services. Anyone 18 or older holding a valid International Driving Permit may rent a RENTAL819 motorcycle.
Licences issued outside Hong Kong or Macau
If your licence was issued in another country, please contact us first and we will check whether it can be used in Japan.
What else should you bring?
Bring at least one physical credit card in your own name: the branch in Japan usually requires a credit card at pick-up for deposit and identity verification. The rent itself is paid to Helmet King by FPS or bank transfer.
